Abstract

This article will provide an overview of the first two decades of New Grenada Republic's existence, when the artisans began to gain prominence in political spheres and wield influence on New Grenada's economic decisions. By contextualizing political, economic and social characteristics of this period, this article will illuminate the environment that led to the emergence of artisan societies in the city of Bogota and demonstrate how the appointed society of Bogota transitioned from an estate society to a class society.
