Abstract

In this text we had try to address some relevant dimensions in the relation between science, technology and society. As a central point, the article is focused on technological change, his original context conditions, different modalities and the dependence relation that is founded between central and peripheral countries in terms of transfer and commercialization of technology. Beyond temporal governments of peripheral countries, we stress how important is the existence of adequate and sustainable scientific and technological policies on a period of long term.

In line with the above, the case of Cuba is developed as an example of technological development, autonomous and successful, in a specific segment: biotechnology. This article pretended to point out some factors of the linkage between social aspects and the technological change properly said; being the latter determined by the first aspect.
