This article raises the concern that, after the conceptual revolution initiated by the publication of A Theory of Semiotics in 1975, its author, Umberto Eco, did not revisit one of the topics that interested him in the 1960s: kitsch and cultural industries. If he had returned to these issues with the new conceptual and notional horizons afforded by his discovery of the thought of Charles S. Peirce, he would have undoubtedly surpassed the dichotomous vision present in works such as Apocalypse Postponed. Taking a Latin American culture example, this article proposes a strategy to address the importance of kitsch in our cultural configurations.
