Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the consequences of the civil wars of the 19th century in Colombia on the telegraphic communication system. Within the framework of the current history of communication, documentary evidence is presented that accounts for the impact of the din of these wars, especially those of 1876, 1884-1885 and 1895, in the offices, administrative structure and in the telegraph network, as well as the steps taken by the national and provincial governments with a view to the reconstruction process in the midst of all the economic and fiscal difficulties.
