This work analyzes the use of oral sources in history, applying them to a particular subject: the transmission of the Holocaust memory in Ecuador. We focus our attention on the Jewish community in Cuenca that remained in the city for almost two decades. Through memories and written sources, it has been proposed to reconstruct their history. However, in this article we observe the flaws of that first approach, especially for having considered history and memory as synonyms without appreciating the specificities of the oral sources. In this new approach, we take stock of what has been done, and we propose that the use of oral sources, this time recognizing their own characteristics, will allow us a more profound outreach to this topic and a knowledge of what and why we remember this particular theme.
