The social, political, economic, and environmental dynamics of Latin America have led to common problems and shared challenges. Among the issues of greatest interest to academia and regional governments are inequality and poverty, democratic consolidation, social movements, gender-based violence, the environmental crisis, migration, and access to fundamental rights such as education and healthcare. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated many of these issues, impacting the economy, employment, and increasing poverty and inequality. According to CEPAL, gender gaps also widened, with an increase in domestic workloads and violence against women.
